Riga Technical University is the first technical university in the Baltic countries – its history dates back to 1862 when Riga Polytechnic was founded. Long lasting traditions, advanced teaching methods, new technologies and innovative approach provide the University with the opportunity to ensure research excellence and offer exciting full-time or part-time studies in RTU in Engineering Sciences, Technologies, Natural and Environmental Sciences as well as in Architecture and Engineering Economics.
Riga Technical University is an accredited internationally recognised European university that consists of 8 faculties and 35 institutes. It is the second largest university in Latvia by number of students, and it has the greatest number of state funded students.
It is ensured that each student of Riga Technical University gains practical experience during internships not only in Latvia but also abroad. More than 200 agreements on cooperation have been signed with European and other foreign universities. RTU collaborates with the enterprises in major industries in Latvia and abroad as well as with state and local government institutions. Supported by European Structural Funds, RTU is taking active part in various research projects as well as in establishing of Competence Centres and National Research Centres.
RTU participates in the Start Off meeting, all PMB meetings and project conferences, contributes to all the discussion and planning and QA procedures.
RTU is the leading partner of EXTEND responsible for core WP 3 Development coordination the development and piloting of training courses for PhD students and experienced teachers in teaching engineering disciplines. Participates in preparation of course book, contributes to piloting with guest lectures in PC universities. RTU hosts training seminar for PC staff (month 3/19). RTU also participates in WP 1 Preparation including contribution to introduction training seminar and consultations for development of teacher competence descriptor.
Professor (PhD) Igors Tipans has developed skills in international student recruitment since 1992 when he assisted to increase the number of students from Lebanon and other Middle East countries in programmes in mechanics. Since 1998 Professor Igors Tipans is the Director of International Students Department of Riga Technical University. In that period of time the number of international students at Riga Technical University has increased from 66 to 2056. Large number of existing RTU programmes in engineering, business and humanities has been initiated for running entirely in English. New education markets have been developed, as a result now RTU has students from 76 countries.

Mr. Timo Turunen is a Business Finances Master degree candidate, with BA degree in global marketing and project management, with experience in economic, political and trade analytics. As a project manager of RTU, Timo has participated in the implementation process of TEMPUS project for Innovation Laboratories deployment in Central Asia and Erasmus+ KA1 initiatives. Currently Timo is also leading RTU team in two different Erasmus+ projects. On Daily basis, Timo works with communication matters, project management as well as a local Erasmus+ project coordinator.
